Residents of Unity Estate, Idimu, Lagos, have vented their anger after a waste disposal truck was abandoned in the area for over three months.

In a series of reactions on social media platform Twitter, the residents stressed that the abandoned truck belonging to the waste management company, Amazing AAT Intermix, is posing a serious environmental hazard as the entire area now stinks especially during the rainy season.

Our Community can also report that the waste truck has been abandoned beside a nursery and primary school located at Babatunde Okunuga Street, Unity Estate, Idimu.

But when contacted, the Director of the company, Mr. Wale Martins, said that the truck was not abandoned intentionally.

He explained that the truck had developed mechanical faults.

“Unfortunately, the truck had some problems and I do not want to complain about the cost because everybody knows the situation of the country which makes these spare parts expensive.

“We were to fix the engine yesterday but we found out that the kick and the alternator have been removed from the truck while it was there which translates to additional costs that we were not actually prepared for,” Martins said.

He pleaded with the community to be patient as the waste management truck had not been abandoned deliberately.

According to him, the truck will be removed from the estate by the end of the month.

“I would like to plead with them to give me till the end of the month; I will remove the truck from that place. The truck being there is not intentional and is also a disservice to the company.

“The time frame I am requesting for is for me to raise money to buy the stolen parts and fix it. I assure them that it will be fixed,” the director pleaded.
