One hundred residents of Egbe-Idimu local council development area have smiled to the bank after the Council Chairman, Hon. Kunle Sanyaolu Olowoopejo empowered them with N25,000 each.

Our Community can report that the beneficiaries made up of small business owners in the council were presented with cash or cheques at a ceremony held at the Council Secretariat, Isheri on Wednesday, October 16.

Speaking at the presentation, Olowoopejo said that the exercise was in line with his administration’s commitment to empowering residents of Egbe-Idimu irrespective of political affiliation.

He said, “We have identified 100 people within the local government irrespective of political affiliation. We’ve picked some people to whom we feel we can extend our hands of generosity in support of their little businesses.

“We are giving out N25,000 to 100 beneficiaries.”

The council boss disclosed that the beneficiaries were “carefully” selected randomly from the five wards in the council.

Olowoopejo further stated that as the exercise was continuous a new set of beneficiaries would be empowered by his administration in February 2020.

He enjoined the beneficiaries to deploy the funds to grow their businesses thereby boosting the local economy of Egbe-Idimu.

In separate chats with Our Community newspaper, some of the beneficiaries praised the council administration under Olowoopejo for empowering them with the funds.

A beneficiary from Ward B, Mr Emmanuel Adekunle Ogunsimbo, described the poverty alleviation programme as a “good gesture”.

Hailing Olowoopejo, the beneficiary said: “My prayer to him is to progress in everything that he is undertaking”.

Another beneficiary, Mrs Omolara Osho, expressed gratitude to God for using the council chairman to touch her life positively.

Osho, who is from Ward A, said she was very impressed with the programme, promising to use the funds for its intended purpose of growing her business.
