Former Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deserved a worse punishment from Nigerians for its 16 years of mismanagement of the nation’s resources.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain made this known on Tuesday, February 12 while addressing hundreds of party faithful at the commissioning of the Bola Tinubu Primary Health Care Centre, Akowonjo which was built by the Alimosho Local Government Area.
Aregbesola, who spoke in Yoruba, said, “Ours is a party that prioritises the welfare, development and protection of the masses, and that is what sets us apart from the others.
“If it wasn’t that Nigerians forget things easily, no party called PDP should still be in existence because the party was in control of the resources of Nigeria for 16 years.
“All the challenges facing Nigeria were caused by this party.
“Let me remind you of what PDP did to this country.
“PDP was in charge when stealing of Nigeria’s crude oil commenced, and they stole a lot.
“When the announcement was made, 600,000 barrels was reported stolen every day.
“This was when a barrel of crude oil was sold for $100.
“Let us calculate 600,000 barrels by $100. The result is what Nigeria lost daily under the PDP.
“By the time we (APC) took over power in 2016, a barrel of crude oil was sold for $28.
“PDP’s stealing caused the crash in the price of crude oil in the international market.
“Since then the price of crude oil has not returned to $100; it was $61 as at this morning.”
Aregbesola added, “What this means is that: Let us assume that a family is into farming of yams and one of the children of the family decides to start stealing the family’s agricultural produce from the farm, can the family make as much money as when the yams were not being stolen?
“When he steals a lot of yams and goes to the market to sell them, does a thief sell his loot at normal price? He sells them cheaply.
“If he continues to do that, what will happen to the price of that commodity in the market? The price will crash.
“That is the problem that the PDP has plunged Nigeria into, and it is this problem that the APC is seeking solution to.”
