The traditional ruler made the appeal when some participating teams paid him a courtesy visit and requested more teams to be added in the 2019 edition of the competition.

The Ramadan Cup is an annual competition organised by Prince GAS Global Sports Concept in Igando to herald the Muslim month of fasting.

Onigando said, “I am aware there are sixteen teams available, and you know I’m not in the position to increase or decrease the number of teams available but I will have to speak with the chairman of organising committee for the tournament which happens to be my son.

“Also one of the teams pleading to be included is my late friend’s team; that is the Osunba of Igando, Chief Rafiu Dada whose team is Rafiu Dada FC.”

The respected traditional ruler hailed the Mayedero of Igando and Managing Director of Evergreen Group Limited, Chief Iyke Madu, who is set to sponsor the tournament.

Onigando called on other chiefs and well-meaning individuals in the community and environs to emulate Madu.

Our Community can report that the tournament is billed to commence on May 5.

In a chat, Chairman, Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the tournament, Prince Adebola Sulaimon Gbadamosi lauded the effort of the sponsor, Chief Madu, adding that more sponsors had indicated interest in the competition.

The sponsor, Chief Madu, said he decided to sponsor the competition because of its aim which is the development of new talents.

He said, “The motivational drive in supporting grassroots football is to discover new talents and also to foster unity in the community while engaging the youths in achieving their self-esteem.

“The competition is a yearly affair which the youths and the entire community will always be looking up to yearly.

“My appeal to the young players is for them to take the competition seriously and see it as a stepping stone to build their footballing career and general wellbeing.

“I do have clubs within the West Coast of Africa and Europe that can partner with us. As a matter of fact, in next year’s competition we will invite some of our collaborators to watch the matches from outside Nigeria.”

Also, the Chairman of LOC, who is popularly known as Prince GAS, disclosed that scouts would be on ground to take note of young stars during the game.
