The Chairman, Egbe-Idimu local council development area, Hon. Kunle Sanyaolu Olowoopejo, has donated three buses to the council’s Revenue Department to help improve its Internally-Generated Revenue (IGR) drive.
Olowoopejo officially handed the revenue buses to the Council Treasurer, Mr. Gbenga Hunponu in a brief ceremony held at the Council Secretariat, Isheri on Wednesday, October 16.
Speaking to reporters, the council boss said the buses were procured to address the mobility change faced by the council’s revenue collectors.
Olowoopejo said, “As you can see boldly written on them, they are revenue buses meant to help in our revenue collection.
“The complaint from our staff is that they are not mobile; that sometimes they have to hire public buses to go on revenue drive. Doing that we also encourage fake collectors.
“For that reason we’ve decided to procure these three revenue buses for the revenue department to enhance our revenue generation.”
Responding, Hunponu lauded the Council Chairman for listening to the yearnings of the revenue collectors by providing the buses.
He said, “On behalf of every member of staff in Egbe-Idimu, especially the revenue collectors, we are very grateful for this widow’s mite from the council chairman.
“We’ve been calling for this for a very long time. Thank God it has come and we know that this will take us a milestone in achieving the aim of revenue generation in Egbe-Idimu.
“Before now, we’ve not been handy with utility vehicles, making it impossible for us to go to every nook and cranny of the local government to tap our revenue.
“But with these buses, definitely we’re going to do more than we’ve been doing.”
