A 67-year-old man has died from coronavirus in Nigeria, making him the first fatality in the country.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) disclosed this in a tweet on Monday.

According to the NCDC, the victim had underlying conditions including cancer and diabetes and recently returned from the United Kingdom where he sought medical attention.

The tweet read, “The 1st #COVID19 death in Nigeria has been recorded.

“The case was a 67 year old male who returned home following medical treatment in UK He had underlying medical conditions – multiple myeloma & diabetes & was undergoing chemotherapy.

“Our thoughts are with his family.”

Meanwhile, the centre disclosed that 36 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Nigeria so far.

Giving a breakdown, NCDC wrote, Lagos – 25,  Federal Capital Territory – 6, Ogun- 2, Ekiti – 1, Oyo – 1, and Edo – 1.
