The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) is set to begin a campaign tagged Hall of Fame and Wall of Shame, to shame residents who indulge in reckless waste disposal.

LAWMA disclosed this in a press release on Sunday, January 19, following the arrest and sentencing of waste disposal offenders to community service by a mobile court in the state.

According to the release, residents are reminded of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s executive order on zero tolerance to traffic and environmental infractions, while stressing that ignorance of the law is no excuse to engage in acts capable of causing harm to the environment and the people.

The authority stated that the days of condoning littering and indiscriminate waste disposal in the metropolis were over, adding that environmental offenders will be named and shamed using the agency’s social media handles and other public communication channels.

Parents have also been advised to properly guide their children and wards against harmful environmental practices.

LAWMA warned that anyone caught dumping waste indiscriminately under the cover of darkness will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
