The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has concluded plans to decommission its Solous landfill site in Igando area of Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area.

This was made known in a statement by the Managing Director of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin on Saturday, November 2.

He said that the Olusosun landfill site in Ojota and Epe landfill site would also be decommissioned.

Gbadegesin stated that the decommissioning was due to urban encroachment and increased human activities around the areas, with the sites drawing close to the end of their life span.

“There were not much human activities close to the site at inception, but fast-paced development in the state has seen houses built around them,” he said.

The director further stated that immediate measures would be taken to mitigate the impact of the closure.

He disclosed that plans were in place to establish 5MW waste to energy plants at Solous to tap the energy potential available there.
