The Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Alimosho, Hon Isiaka Shodiya, has blasted the senator representing Lagos West senatorial district in the National Assembly, Sen. Olamilekan Adeola, over his campaign promise to ensure that the 37 local council development areas in Lagos become full-fledged local governments.
In a statement posted on the Facebook page of Mosan-Okunola LCDA Chairman, Hon. Olabisi Adebajo, the senator made the promise while commissioning the 1st Phase Rehabilitation of 5th Avenue Dual Carriage Road in Mosan-Okunola LCDA on Wednesday, February 13.
Yayi, as the senator is popularly called, said if re-elected into the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly, he would work to ensure that the LCDAs “transform” to LGAs.
Reacting in a telephone conversation with Our Community Alimosho, the PDP Chairman, Shodiya, described the senator’s comment as a “nonsense” promise and “electoral balderdash” meant to hoodwink voters into voting for his return to the senate.
He added that no individual could single-handedly transform a local council development area into a local government because of the complexities involved in creating a local government in Nigeria.
Shodiya said, “It’s nonsense. It is not something an individual can do. When you go to the Nigerian Senate, we have 109 senators which cut across the senatorial districts in Nigeria.
“As we speak, there are 774 local government areas in Nigeria. There are a lot of things that are taken into consideration before a local government is created. They look at economic viability, population and a lot of other things.
“That is just electoral balderdash. He’s just trying to woo people, telling them lies. It’s not possible. You and I know that it is not possible.
“All the things he promised in the last three and half years, he’s yet to fulfil them. There was a time he promised to use all his facilities to attract federal projects to Alimosho Local Government.
“Ask him now how far he has gone about fulfilling his previous electoral promises to the good people of Lagos West senatorial district in Lagos State. So it’s balderdash, he’s telling lies, he cannot do it, and it is not realisable.
“It’s rubbish and it cannot come to fruition.”
