A youth group, Involve Africa, has accused the Alimosho local government of abandoning the construction of a one-storey block of classrooms at Rauf Aregbesola Nursery and Primary School.
The school is located along Shasha road, Alimosho.
According to a statement released by the group, the project, which is being handled by ARUP Engineering Ltd, was slated to be completed within six months but has yet to be completed more than a year after its commencement.
The statement read, “Our social auditors visited the on-going construction of a storey building classrooms for pupils of Rauf Aregbesola Nursery and Primary School, Akowonjo, Lagos, funded by the monies of Tax Payers in Alimosho Local government.
“At an observation and interaction with the people of this locality; it was affirmed that this project is already abandoned by the government of Alimosgo; this hinders school enrollment rate and leaves some children of Abati area of Shasha of Alimosho local government out of school.”
Our Community gathered that the school project was listed as “ongoing” in the 2019 appropriation bye-law for Alimosho LGA.
However, there has been no mobilisation to site since the signing of the bye-law three months ago.
When contacted for his reaction, the Special Adviser on Media to the council chairman, Mr. Jamiu Ayinde, promised to get back to our reporter.
He had yet to do so at the time of filing this report.
