All is now set for the 2019 Ramadan Cup final between Citadel FC and Aje Utd.

The final of the tournament is scheduled to be played at the proposed Palace Playing Ground, Igando on Wednesday, June 5.

Both teams had tough semifinal outings as Citadel FC defeated Baggio FC with just a lone goal while Aje Utd secured a final spot at the expense of Sammy FC via penalty kick.

The Chairman, Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the tournament, Prince Sulaimon Adebola Gbadamosi, urged football fans to turn up to watch the final match which he promised would be “epic”.

He lauded the commitment of participating teams despite pockets of challenges, including rain.

Gbadamosi, who is popularly called Prince GAS, said, “We want to appreciate the effort of all teams who participated in this year’s Ramadan Cup.

“We had beautiful games despite the rain and all other challenges which we pulled through.

“Wednesday will be the grand finale for both teams and we will be expecting dignitaries from all walks of life within and around Lagos to grace the occasion”.

Also, he expressed gratitude to the sponsors for supporting the development of grassroots football.

He noted, “I also want to appreciate the huge support from the management of Mr. Fruts. They have been in every game we have organised and they have come a long way.”

Also speaking with Our Community, a patron of the tournament and Managing Director of Evergreen Groups Limited, Chief Iyke Madu Obi, said he backed the tournament because of his love for grassroots sports.

Chief Obi, who is the Mayedero of Igando, said he would be present at the final game which he called a “final among finals”.

He said, “The motivational drive in supporting grassroots football is to discover new talents and also to foster unity in the community and to engage the youths in achieving their self-esteem.

“The competition has been fair and I hope this final will be a thing to remember and I want to enjoin both teams in the final to obey every rule of the game.

“I want the young players to see the competition as a stepping stone to build their footballing career and their confidence”.

Special guests expected at the event include Onigando of Igando, Oba Lasisi Gbadamosi, Elder David Akere, Mr. Afees Arisekola Nishara, Mr  Ganiyu Sukanmi and members of Alimosho Coaches Council.
